'Choctoid' of the month:
How chocolate was responsible
for the invention of the microwave...
Once upon a time scientists were experimenting with devices called magnetrons in the hope of creating a radar detector... a scientist named Percy Spencer happened to stroll through his magnetron lab with a chocolate bar in his pocket.


On discovering a pocket full of squidgy melted chocolate, Spencer realized that he might be able to use the magnetron to cook food. He tried popping corn (successfully) and then thought he'd give real food a try. His first experiment? An egg, which cooked so quickly it blew up in his face! The microwave was born...
...and it was all because of chocolate!
